The Burgerbibliothek of Berne and the Münstergasse Library
Two institutions under the same roof. Archives and manuscripts are located at the Burgerbibliothek of Berne, while the Zentrum Historische Bestände (Centre for Historic Collections of the University Library of Berne) at the Münstergasse Library holds rare books. Many of the collections complement one another, for example the books and manuscripts from the famous collection of the French diplomat Jacques Bongars. The two institutions work closely together on conservation and restoration. The Burgergemeinde of Bern finances the Centre for Historic Collections in full.
