450 linear metres
14th — 20th century
The historic archives, under the reference Mss.h.h., comprise about 450 linear metres of documents dating from the 14th to the 20th century. They include famous chronicles of Bernese history by Konrad Justinger, Diebold Schilling, Thüring Fricker and Michael Stettler and a wide range of private deposits comprising family papers, private papers, collections of letters and individual documents.

The von Mülinen collection of manuscripts (Mss. Mül.) was built up from the middle of the 18th century by members of the von Mülinen family and was given to what was then the City and University Library in 1937. Covering 65 linear metres, it consists mainly of copies of documents from the 16th to the 18th century on Bernese and Swiss history. The collection can be searched using the Online Archive Catalogue. Together with the von Mülinen Historic Library, which can be accessed via the Swiss Libraries Catalogue, and the family archives (FA von Mülinen) that has not yet been fully indexed, it represents a unique resource and a fascinating example of a private collection.
