The oldest archives from societies and associations in the Burgerbibliothek of Berne date back to the 17th century, but most of the holdings date from the 19th and 20th centuries. The minutes from general meetings and sessions, invoices, correspondence and list of members give an insight into the diverse life of societies and associations in Berne. Those societies and associations that are still in existence update their archives at regular intervals.
